I finally found the time and energy to set up my website.
It”s been a hell of a ride last month and here is why:
I was tired of being a sales guy; getting the monthly or quarterly targets all the time is exhausting (at least for me). Having to deal with some customers you don’t like, keeping that CRM up-to-date, going to events and keep that smile up. Selling a product you sometimes don’t like or don’t relate to (not talking about my last job, I love the cloud). In the end, after 11 years as sales, I found out that I just not like it anymore. I was having rash from the stress, combined with a lack of sleep thanks to my two lovely kids, the anxiety of losing my job because without it, things would get more difficult. I wasn’t happy anymore and it showed.
I had to change, no more sales. I could get back to my roots as techie, but that wasn’t ideal as my expertise in Cisco networking and Microsoft servers is from the time I weighted 20kg less and I didn’t have grey hair.
The only thing that remains was becoming a freelance IT Consultant, doing my own thing, helping people and firms where it was needed. This has been on my mind for several years, but I had to get a kick in the bum and a slap in my face to finally make the decision.
And so I leaped…
It has been a bumpy ride so far, but I didn’t regret it for a second.
Sure it has its downsides, you have to do everything yourself: That company car you were given at the start of your new job? Forget it. That smartphone with an unlimited calling and texting? Get it yourself. Getting payment on time at the end of the month? It might be doable, but if you don’t send your invoice on time, you will have to do some explaining to your wife, your children, and your cat.
In my next post I will tell you more about this bumpy ride, but for now, work’s calling!
PS: don’t mind the old posts, they are from my old blog 🙂
